This week has been rather calm, with regular progress going on behind the scenes. In spite of everything I haven't been able to obtain anything to present in the form of a teaser. A neat suggestion we've had coming in from Zeus that might be worth to mention is the fact we're going to regulate some form of Hall of Fame, and on top of that I hope to introduce an achievement system into the forums, that will allow people whom have made contributions towards the server to flash off those milestones or contributions in the form of a profile badge. This way we hope to see people be more willing to help in order to gain some sort of status symbol, and see those whom do so not let down and forgotten by others, but actually have the ability to gai…

This week's progress has been fairly well, with the past announcement of Alpha 1.0 being well past 48%. Word's been spreading and individuals all over seem to have flocked in. According to statistics we've seen a 400% rise in forum activity in comparison to a month back. I'm happy to see a stable 10 posts a day occur within this small, noble clique of players. A warm welcome to whoever joined this week.

    Script progress

Scripting progress has been great, and Kyle's been dedicating a fair bit of time in speedy, neat scripting. I've had the chance to play around with some features during an unscheduled one-on-one test session and was amazed by the integration of keyboard controls and vivid, user-friendly work-around with one of our most highly …

Our current forum host hasn't been very stable, and was giving us a hard time with downtime because they had been working on issues with their datacenter for the past three days. Therefore we decided to join up with another host instead, that is more renowned in terms of support and so forth. We've had a good first impression of them, and the forums will be up by today. There is a little software issue we couldn't fix, but IPS support will be working on that for us. It isn't anything significant, and now that we do have time to test hosts out, I hope when the server is finally public, we wont have to suffer of these malfunctions.

We've started advertising our server in several places, and if anyone has any suggestions on where to advertise,…

Somewhere this weekend the new forums will be opened towards the community. Hopefully IPB will give us a more flexible visual editor, a more secure software package and more advanced admin features. With that said, this was the final scheduled switch-over to another forum, and we plan on sticking with these forums up until launch and beyond.

Additionally, the Xenforo and SMF databases have been merged, in order not to waste any forum statistics. We'll be celebrating our 1000th post with that. The index page has gained an overhaul, having dedicated some of my time to the design of a features page and the writing of a small game-guide on roleplay, with its main objective to superficially explain the definition of roleplay since we hope to rec…

We're approximately 75% to the early alpha version of our script, which will be released as a closed alpha. The alpha was originally meant to contain a lot of GUI changes, however later it seems to gain more and more of a wow-factor for our players since it holds a lot of unique features that players haven't yet seen in other roleplay server up until now; at least not in such a varied, stable manner as Aria.

Lately we've been struggling with our new host yet again. Our host was a re-seller, whom provided hosting services to us on an off-shore datacenter he could not personally manage. Therefore it was decided we would yet again bail. Sadly a brief struggle caused us to loose a lot of hard-done work by our web developers, due to the fact bac…

Development has been ever hastily working on the script, as I've tried to scramble together a few additional developers through bargain to speed up the process. A couple of old faces, although nothing's official as of now.

Beside that high administration has speculated on internal affairs, and the way we will deal with regular- and new administrators. As you know we imply to uphold a very professional sphere, and draw a line in standards, and try to uphold that as we progress. With that being said we've concluded we will be organising periodical meetings in which administrators will be monitored and classed on basic, daily report encounters, and more specific situations wherein administrators will be taught to deal with situations that aren…

As you may have noticed we've switched both host and forums. As a courtesy of Shadow we've now established ourselves on an off-shore server that will host our more secure forums for the time being. As follows, with the move we've been provided with a neat frontpage, which is as is currently still under construction despite the greater segments of design have been finished. A big shout-out to our programmers Shadow and Castle. Without them this move wouldn't have been possible, and we'd of still been stuck to the pretty mediocre forums we used to have. Thank you very much. Your credit will not be forgotten.

Beside that, our head developer knash94 has been working day-in, day-out, moreso often doing nightshifts to continue working on the high…

Developers have been thinking out a lot of alternative ways to integrate interesting features that the more the better will cause roleplay to sprout in a large variety without making them very elementary to creating a flow in gameplay. Thereby customized features will take up more of an enhancing role. From items to probable exploitable business plans it's all being worked on. With our script development team having encountered private issues we expect slow progress around this month, however it doesn't delay our expectations of finalizing the alpha version which has been announced to staff as closed access to test out upcoming features. Script design is in the phases of finalizing its character creation system based off the Paradise Rolep…

We're probably all familiar with how a lot of servers deal with a ton of different administrative ranks, with a what superficially seems well-organised team of staff members that eventually just ends up slacking, having tired team members and unfunctional departments that overall just slack on their work. There's bureaucracy everywhere; you need to make tons of requests, there's tons of threads you read, and if you go in the wrong you get the old arguement 'you should of just read the rules'. When you check out the rules there's fifty lines of text you need to read like it's an assignment to enter into a game.

I've personally experienced these issues as a nuisance, and share the opinion of having to cut down on this. We wont be dealing with…

    Alpha 0.5

    January 2, 2013 by Solstice95

After being repeatedly turned down by several developers we've learned not to back down of our project regardless. While money did not make us acquire a developer able to give us something built up from scratch, we decided it would probably be wise to resort to Mabako's royalty free MTA paradise script.

With few modifications we will be able to twist it in such a manner it upholds its own original traits, while paradise will provide the server with the most basic yet script-complex features to run a roleplay server on, giving us the ability to check a ton of work-in-progress features and step up towards developing the actual server now that the frame has been built, and it starts to look more and more like a project on its own and ideas bei…

I initially announced the phases through which I'm going to work to set the server's script up. While still stuck (?) on phase one the first stage of the log-in protocol has finished. The simple login GUI is to embrace simplicity itself allowing people to quickly shift to the character selection screen after filling out their respective credentials.

The next step will be the character selection screen which was inspired by the WoW character selection screen for further reference. It's yet again simple and user-friendly. I want to ban out the use of too much clicking and typing. Getting ingame shouldn't be much of a nuisance after say a client-side dysfunction causing a crash. It needs to happen quick and easy.

As for our database I've strugg…

Basically all professional developers dropped out on scripting Aria RP for us, for reasons such as MTA being an out-of-date medium with little way of aspiring, and personal reasons for others. So at this point in time I've resorted to taking full control of script development with mediocre knowledge of .LUA. Any scripting help is welcome regardless, to add up to all the different features we're going to get our hands on.

Right now we purchased our domain for the forum (www.aria-roleplay.com) which will be later displayed on the tabber on the frontpage of the Wiki for a quick hyperlink for whoever is interested. The dedicated server we're awaiting is sponsored by www.aria-hosting.net. Be sure to take a look at it for cheap web- and server-ho…

    Early creative development

    December 10, 2012 by Solstice95

I've managed to hook up on a couple of staff members while starting to write on documentation to present to the devs. As of now the project is still stuck on an early development stage and there's no deadline. Most of the documented features and concept-art are mere speculations based on personal experience, viewpoints and a mixture of similarities by other people I've consulted with.

To give everyone a little bit of insight on what's happened in the past, I want to tell about how one of our devs and I once worked on a server. While I was not an official staff member I tried hard getting the cogs working since we had a very basic roleplaying script. Quite realistically we didn't want to deal with copycat material like many other communities…

    The future of Aria

    December 9, 2012 by Solstice95

While staff and I basically want to keep the project as a whole low I figured it'd be wise to get started on the wikia in itself. While in previous communities the wikia has mainly served as a stand-alone extension encyclopedia to the server with little obligations I plan on utilizing the Aria Wiki for more transparant ends. Basically script features will be showcased here and newsletters will be archived on here aswell because it's a safe database for whatever means neccessary.

As such the Aria Wiki will be a more official addition to the server and build a large community project revolving around a serious roleplay experience with a higher level of transparancy towards the playerbase due to how we notify players of changes and things are …
